There is no information available yet about any third judge. Most likely we will see a lot of celebrity guest appearances on the show.

The format:
This is India your talking about! No matter what the format is, it will be just as a fickle as a young girls heart and can change several times before we come to a tedious end.

This year it will be again a public voting competition with 28 contestants all under the age of 14. The auditions for the India contestant were held in Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. Also was announced that this time, as the title of the show implies, children from 10 different countries around the globe would participate in the race to become the final champ. Now here’s where the head scratching already starts. According to Wikipedia the auditions were held in the following countries: United Kingdom, Dubai, South Africa, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kenya, New Zealand, Singapore, Fiji, Australia, Israel, Hong Kong and the US of A.

I might have a serious counting problem but those are 13 different countries am I right?

Sonu Niigaam

Sonu Nigam (Hindi: सोनु निगम), born July 30, 1973 in Faridabad, Haryana, India,[1] is a playback singer whose songs have been featured in numerous Bollywood movies. He has also released numerous Indi-pop albums. He changed the spelling of his last name from Nigam to Niigaam to reflect an auspicious number in astrology. Sonu was born in Faridabad to parents Agam Kumar Nigam and Shobha Nigam. He has 2 sisters called Meenal and Neekita. He attended D J Tyler school.

Background ==== information

Born ==== July 30, 1973 (1973-07-30) (age 34)

Flag of India ==== Faridabad

Genre(s) ==== Pop, Playback singing

Occupation(s) ==== Singer, Actor

Years active ==== 1990–present

Career

Sonu Nigam started his singing career at the age of three, when he joined his father on stage to sing Mohammad Rafi's "Kya Hua Tera Wada". He proceeded from then on to accompany his father on his singing assignments in weddings and parties. He participated in several music competitions in his teenage years and won them all until he was not allowed to participate any more! He moved to Mumbai with his father in search of his proper singing career at the mere age of 18. His initial years in Mumbai proved to be a struggle, and Sonu started by singing covers of Mohammad Rafi songs, mainly for the "Rafi Ki Yaadein" album series. His first movie song as a playback singer was in the film "Janum" which was a major flop in (1990). This film was not officially released due to some reason but some considered it as a flop. Again he got a break as a playback singer in Gulshan Kumar's film Aaja Meri Jaan and then "Accha Sila Diya Tune" (also sung in Gujarati) from "Bewafa Sanam" (1995). The latter was what gave him the recognition needed as a singer. At this time, he also started hosting "Sa Re Ga Ma", a television singing talent competition that became one of the most popular shows on Indian television. The first episode was aired on May 1, 1995. Thereafter, the singing offers poured in, albeit slowly at first. He shot to fame with the song "Sandese Aate Hai" from Border (1997), the music of which was directed by Anu Malik. In the initial stages, he was type-cast as a Rafi-sound-alike. The image was transformed after his brilliant rendition of "Yeh Dil Deewana" in the film Pardes (1997). Since then, he has created a unique trademark style of his own. Over the years, Sonu Nigam has become a major force in the music industry. Sonu has sung playback for countless Hindi movies and has won many awards for them. His rendition of Kal Ho Na Ho is considered a modern legend of sorts. He is generally acclaimed for his versatile voice as well as his excellent emoting in his songs. He is also a popular playback singer for many regional movies, singing effortlessly in many languages from Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali to Tamil, Telugu and many more. He is very famous in the south for his clear pronunciation of non-native languages like Tamil, Kannada etc. His recent hits include Mungaaru Male in Kannada and Kireedom in Tamil. A.R. Rahman introduced Sonu Nigam to tamil music in his superhit venture Jeans (film)(1997) directed by ace director S. Shankar.

Pop albums and concerts

He has released a number of pop albums including "Mausam", "Sapnay Ki Baat", "Kismat", "Deewana", "Jaan"," Yaad", "Chanda Ki Doli" and "Colours of Love", as well as a Punjabi album 'Pyar'. In September 2007, he released a 6-disk collection of Mohammad Rafi's 100 best songs in his memory. Sonu has done concerts in many countries over the years, including Pakistan, UAE, Afghanistan, United States, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, UK, France, Mauritius, South Africa and Australia. Sonu has been recently toured North America in May/June 2007 in a star-studded show called "The Incredibles" with singing legend Asha Bhonsle, as well as current singing sensations Kunal Ganjawala and Kailash Kher. On September 9, 2007, he performed in Toronto, Canada for the third time in one year as part of another North America/Canada tour - this time a solo one called "Simply Sonu". He will be the first Indian singer to ever have a show in Germany when he continues his Simply Sonu tour there in October. He recently performed a bhajan (Vaishnav Jan To) with the Harvard College Sangeet in a ceremony to inaugurate the 28th president of Harvard University, Dr. Drew Gilpin Faust, in the presence of esteemed guests like George Bush, Bill Gates, and Oprah Winfrey.

Television, radio and acting

Besides "Sa Re Ga Ma', he has also hosted Kisme Kitna Hai Dum and has been a judge on Indian Idol seasons 1 and 2. Recently Sonu returned to Indian Idol in season 3 as a celebrity judge. He was also a celebrity judge on Amul Star Voice of India in August. In October 2007, Sonu is all set to return to the sets of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa where he started his career - except that this time it is as a judge in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs International. Last year, Sonu also hosted his own radio show called Life Ki Dhun With Sonu Nigam on Radiocity 91 FM, where he has had the opportunity of interviewing several music industry greats, including the legendary Lata Mangeshkar. This radio show is available on the net. Sonu's acting career started as a child artist in a number of films. As an adult, Sonu has acted in a few more films, namely 'Jaani Dushmaan' alongside Sunny Deol, Manisha Koirala and Akshay Kumar as well as other actors; 'Kash Aap Hamare Hote' where he plays the lead opposite Juhi Babbar, daughter of Raj Babbar; and lastly Love in Nepal with 'Flora Saini' and 'Sweta Keswani', where he plays the lead again. However it is to be said that all three films have not done terribly well at the box-office. He has not taken up acting since his last venture in Love in Nepal, but has recently been said to be involved in another film as a lead actor. The film, called 'Ankhon Ankhon Mein' is supposedly about a blind singer.

Future projects

His future projects include a semi-classical album, an English album called Spirit Unfolding; as well as his new film as an actor. He is also doing a concert tour in Germany in the last 2 weeks of October and is returning to the sets of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa as a judge on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs International this October.

Personal life

Sonu Nigam is very close to his parents. His mother and father are both very good singers and his father - Agam Kumar Nigam - had a major hit with his album Bewafaai in 2005. He has come back with another hit this year in Phir Bewafaai. He has two sisters, one of whom - Nikita - is also a singer. She has sang a few playback songs and a few stage shows with Sonu. Sonu married his wife Madhurima on 15 February 2002. Although he has had some problems in his marriage and the two apparently had a short period of separation some time back, they are now back together and their relationship is going strong. In fact, Sonu Nigam became a father on 26 July 2007 to his son Nevaan (which means Holy).

Suresh Wadkar

Biography

Suresh Wadkar was born in Kolhapur, India. At the age of 10, he began acquiring basic music education from his Pandit Jialal Vasant. He soon impressed his guru with the quality of voice[1]. He began performing on the stage at a very early age.

Singing career

Though groomed for Indian classical music, he entered the Sur-Singar competition in 1976. Young Suresh won the competition which was judged by illustrious composers from the Indian film industry including Jaidev. It was Jaidev who gave him a break with the song "Seene Mein Jalan" in the film Gaman (released in 1978). This was followed by the film Paheli (released 1977).

Lata Mangeshkar recommends

At the time, Lata Mangeshkar was so impressed with his voice that she strongly recommended him to big names like Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Khayyam and Kalyanji-Anandji.[2]. Laxmikant–Pyarelal, impressed with his voice, soon recorded a duet with Lata "Chal Chameli Bagh Mein" for Krodhi (released in 1981). Soon after they gave him hit songs in Hum Paanch, Pyasa Sawan ("Megha re Megha Re") and above all, his turning point in films - Raj Kapoor’s Prem Rog (released in 1982). In Prem Rog, he sang all the four songs for hero Rishi Kapoor. Among Kalyanji–Anandji’s songs, the song "Hathon Ki Chand Lakeeron Ka" from Vidhaata (released in 1982) was a big hit. Suresh Wadkar also sings non-film hindi and marathi songs. He is also a well-know Marathi playback singer.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs 2007 – The champs from abroad

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs 2007 – The champs from abroad

2007-10-22 14:49:51

After a little recap of Friday’s show, Aditya Narayan and all the kids that already performed came on stage to sing “Chota Bachha Jaan Ke”. I probably will say this a gazillion times during Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs International but it was darn cute!

In this episode the children from outside India will perform. Out of these kids only four will be picked to battle the coming weeks for becoming the final champ. But before that a few more champs from the Motherland, who also made it to the show.

First up was Sagar from Mumbai with “Halka Halka” from the movie Chocolate. He seemed to be enjoying singing on stage and overall it was a solid performance.
The next candidate, also from Mumbai, was Shreya Nair. She sang “Mast” from the movie Mast. Here and there she lost control over her voice but she sure has some range! Sonu commented on that very fact by saying that she should stop screaming if else people won’t hear the quality of her voice.
I was a bit surprised that at this stage he would comment on her singing techniques. Not only is this their first performance, the children also have to perform in front of such a huge crowd. I would be screaming too!
But she took the criticism well and I’m looking forward to hear more from her. Also, did anyone notice that without the hair she has a striking resemblance with Abrokanthi from last year?
Carrying on. Smita Nandi from Tripura really rocked the stage with “Yeh Pyaas Kahin” from the movie Fareb. Rohit Shyam from Nagpur wasn’t far behind her with "Dard-e-Disco" from Om Shanti Om. Sonu was very impressed by him and told him that he should definitely be in the top 3 or four.
The last contestant from India was Anamika from Assam with the title song of No entry. It’s not an easy song and I thought she handled it well. The advice given to her by Suresh Wadkar was that she should try and avoid to sing in falsetto as it would give her trouble in later stages.

Now over to the international champs!

Shreya from Bahrain gave us a really sweet version of "Raat Akeli hain" from the movie Jewel Thief. Here and there she went a bit wrong but that didn’t harm her performance much. I do wonder if she knew what the song was about…
From Oman we had Arghya with “Mahiya” from the movie Cash. I hate the song with a passion but won’t hold it against her. What did bother me was a woman in a blue sari dancing like she just saw Sprout showing off his man-boobies. You can imagine the tragedy.
Vibhav from Qatar performed the Shammi Kappoor classic “Aaja Aaja” from the movie Teesri Manzil followed by the first contestant from the USA, Shruti. Shruti sang “Saat Samundar” from the movie Vishwaamtma.
Mailthali, a tiny champ from South Africa, was next with “Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu” from the movie Howrah Bridge. It’s a brilliant song and I think she did a wonderful job at it.
Rupali from Fiji was next with the Golmaal title song followed by Monalisa from Malaysia with “Behta Man Kahin” from the movie Chameli.

Pfiewww more kids? Yes! Yash from the United States performed the title song from the movie Dus followed by the last contestant Anushala. Anushala is from Australia and ended the show wit “Hari Om Hari” from the movie Pyaare Dushman. Love the song, loved her performance and I would’ve loved it if she stayed longer on the show.

Obviously I can’t have everything!

Sonu Nigam and Suresh Wadkar were called on stage to select four children out of the international participants.
Before they announced the names of the lucky four Sonu expressed his appreciation for the parents who flew all the way to India just to know if their child got in. He also mentioned understanding the parents and their expectation as he himself became a parent this year. Yep, it’s true Sonu Nigam became Dady-ji on 26 July 2007!

He also asked Suresh Wadkar, who apparently has set up a lot of schools in India, to put up schools outside India so that the diaspora-children can get a proper training. I had a little oh-yes moment when he said these words. Remember Meenal Jain and Amey Date? They also got their training from a Wadkar school!

Enfin, the kids who will have another chance to perform on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs International 2007 are Shreya, Arghya, Maithali and Rupali. Next week the children from Pakistan, who could not perform because of the Eid celebrations, will also show of their talent. If the Pakistani delegation is just a strong as the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2007 Challenge ones were I will definitely look forward to that episode.

Till next week!

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs 2007 International

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs 2007 International

The show started with clippings of last years grand finale featuring the winner (Sanchita), the first runner up (Diwaker) and the second runner up (Sameer). Followed by a performance of their latest song from Bal Ganesh - an animated movie about the adventures of the young ‘elephant god’ Ganesh - on the same stage as where the grand finale of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 was held.

Aditya then announced the two judges Suresh Wadkar and Sonu Nigam. Where Suresh tried to keep things simple and just entered the stage like any normal person would, Sonu agreed to do things different. He was brought in sitting and singing like a mermaid in a human sized birdcage that would float over the heads of the audience towards the stage. The whole thing looked so fragile that I feared he would crash and crush some of the cheering kids but he made it to the stage safe and sound. It’s fun to see him back as a judge!

The very first performance was by Utkarsha from Indore and she sang "Man Saath Samundar Dhol Gaya" from the movie Chameli.

Next up was Sahil Solanki hailing from Chandigargh, Haryana with “Ae Meri Zoharajabeen” from the movie Phir Hera Pheri.

The third little champ was Vibhore from New Delhi. Ubercute and singing “Tuhje Lage” from Sonu’s Album Bijuriya.

After the break came Loria Doshi from Jaipur. "Kay sera" from the movie Pukar was her song for tonight and I have to say, the gal has some volume!

Vasundhra from Delhi was announced as a special child. My guess is that she’s visually impaired. She was singing "Sajna vari vari" from Honeymoon travels Pvt. Ltd.

The next performance just blew me away. Sukanya from new Delhi teamed up with Diwaker to sing " Piya tu" from the movie Caravan. It was absolutely wonderful to see such a young girl performing this cabaretsong. Diwaker was top notch while singing the famous lines: Monica, oh my darling.

Carrying on. Aamir Hafeez from Bhopal came on the stage with "Pyaar Ko Mein" from the movie Sheesa. Followed by Rohan preet from Patiyala, Punjab.

Even before the first tunes of "Chakde Vatde" from the movie Koshla ka Ghosla were sung, a senior Sikh in the audience jumped up and danced like no other. It was absolutely hilarious to see. Even more funny was this little toddler behind Rohanpreet, running/dancing so fast that he could not keep up with his own feet.

Barbie from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh was next and had a real solid performance with ""Chori Ki Baatein" from the movie Fight Club.

The final three were announced and Surbhi from Kota Rajastan came on stage with "Seekle" from the movie Munnabhai MBBS.

Another stellar performance was brought to us by Vaishali from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. I have no idea how long she’s been walking on this lovely planet but it can’t be that long. Which makes her rendition of "Yaajre Yaajre" from the movie Rangeela even more impressive. Ankita, Eat your heart out!

The last champ was Tanmay from Lucknow singing "Jeene ke from" the movie Mujhse Shaadi Karoge.

At the end of the show all the children, the judges and the host came on stage. The kids asked for a performance from their judges and while they were singing a very nice first show ended.

After the success of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa lil’ Champs 2006 it’s producers decided to offer the Hindi-singing little people around the globe a chance in the lime lights too. So friday night (October 19) the first show of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs International 2007 was brought to you by ZeeTV!

The host:
Aditya Narayan – Former host of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa challenge 2007, singer and ‘actor’ will now be hosting Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs International 2007.

The judges:
Sonu Nigam – India’s leading singer who in the past was a host of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. After a hiatus of 8 years (The man was terribly busy with scoring hit after hit) he’s back on the sets of SR GMP ready to judge the next generation of singers.

Suresh Wadkar - A well know Marathi and Hindi playback singer and the second judge of SRGMP L’il Champs.

When and Where:
On Zee TV, Friday and Saturday at 10 PM. Unfortunately the website of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs International 2007 is still not up so for those who are not able to watch ZeeTV I would suggest India Forums or Youtube as an alternative.

Starting 19th October,SaReGaMaPa starts its new season, another international series, but this time with kids betwee
n the age group of 7 to 14yrs. These kids will be singing to live bands under the able guidance of none other than Sonu Nigam and Suresh Wadekar.

We decided to ask Suresh Wadekar how he feels being the judge here. “It feels nice. This is not my first visit to the show. I have come here few times earlier too. But then, it was as a celebrity judge, but now I am the judge and the guide for the contestants too. So have to carry much more responsibility this time”. The first intro part has been done. He had l
ot of praise for the kid contestants. “I was amazed with their talent. I had followed last Lil Champs too.

They had some really good contestants. But this time, the contestants showed talent beyond my imagination. I would like to congratulate and also thank Zee for arranging such a show. To get so many talented kids is a big commendable job done by them.”

Sonu Nigam the other judge of the show incidentally is coming back to the show after full eight years. He was the host of this show and now he is back as the judge. “It’s a pleasure coming back to this show again. I had put so much into this show in its early days. Now it has grown so much.” What made him decide to come back to the show? “Zee came to me with the request. I got similar offers from other such shows too. But this is a show with which I am emotionally attached.” As the introductory episode was already completed by him, we asked him what does he think about the contestants and what shape does he foresee the show to take in future? “This is show of the kids. So I made it very clear that it need to be devoid of all the drama stuff that usually the shows are following these days. We have decided that we will not put any pressure on these kids and let them all have fun here.” How about his fellow judge Suresh Wadekar? “We all know how great a singer he is. He is one who has a very sound knowledge on music. That’s the reason when Zee came to me, I requested them to get him also as the judge because I know his presence is going to be beneficial for these kids.”

With Aditya, another past child prodigy, as the host of the show and now such musical maestro’s on the judge’s seat, the show looks to be a delight for all music lovers.
